There is a pre-1890 traction engine hulk about a mile away from me that has pillowing because of too broadly spaced stay patterns and maybe over firing.

Someone mentioned to me that the ASME code (Don't quote me, feel free to correct me) allows maybe up to 1/4" pillowing between stays or some such - maybe Ohio Historical Boiler rules, don't know.

But that roper clearly has a bit of pillowing or bulging. Looks more like sheet then plate.

Poor Sylvestor died on the thing - heart attack!
