Hello from The Netherlands

Post by Han.Smit » Tue Apr 18, 2017 8:15 pm

Hi there, I would like to introduce myself.

Since the early 80's I have been model engineering. First several stationary steam engines followed by a locomotive (a 3,5 Inch Juliet designed by LBSC) and a freelance traction engine. After years of using and modifying the locomotive, which I am still doing, it is time for something new. A friend of us had a motorboat to restore and I helped him with this. After finishing it, we were so exited that we also want a boat. The boat or launch we are building looks a bit like the Lagom from Germany. The boiler is a vertical type, coal fired and the engine is a compound built from scrap without castings or plans.

I am looking forward to meeting other people and discussing ideas.

With kind regards.

Hello and welcome to the forum. The engine in my boat is also made without castings, and has given good service for 7 years now, with no opening of the engine, and just some replacement of valve stem packings.

Please show photographs of the boat, engine and boiler. Pictures with less than 100K size can be posted on this forum directly.

Welcome to the forum Han. If you go to the coast, stand on something tall, and wave, I might be able to see you and wave back from England.

Hallo Han . Bij deze welkom op het forum. Er zijn nog een stuk meer " stoomboot gekken " hier in Nederland but compared to out neighbouring countries our number is insignificant.
The good news on the other hand is that , this being a small country , we can and do see each other quite regularly and get to know each others boats. Most of us are , either members of the S.B.A. or the " Vereniging Stoomvaart or both .
look us up if you want advice or spin a yarn or talk steam till it's coming out of your ears or better still , come steaming with us .

@Bert Blik: Bedankt voor het leuke welkom. Wellicht spreken we elkaar een keer. Misschien bij het stoomsloepen Festival eind augustus bij het stoommachine museum in Medemblik?

@dampfspieler: The bores are 44 mm and 70 mm. The stroke is 50 mm. The engine is made without any plans or castings.
The hull is 4,4 meter long, and 1,4 meter width. The boiler pressure will be 10 Bar.
