Re: Biomass Briquettes for fuel vs coal

I'm curious to know how the pellet experiment turns out. I know a local supplier that I could purchase them inexpensively.

Re: boiler and engine spacing

From the looks of it, JonP has been making great headway on his engine!

Can't wait to see it when she's all together!

Re: Type of Wood for Hull

For machinery, I've been looking for a compound, and I plan on making my own wood-fired monotube.

I started doing the calculations for the boiler design last night, but my thermodynamics are a little rusty. I'll have to think about it a bit more before I start cutting.

Re: Nockamixon meet AUG 10

Stevey, come on out, we have hotels out here. come in October, it is a 3 day meet and if you really plan on coming you can join in on the dinner Saturday night followed by a movie...maybe Sand Pebbles as we watched African Queen last year. dinner will probably be 15 per person which includes dinner...

Re: Type of Wood for Hull

Thanks for your thoughts. I would classify myself as a 'dreamer' without the requisite 'craft skills' to properly build a boat, which is exactly why I selected a strip planked hull design in the first place. While I can rely on my father to help me build the cabin a bit, it would be awesome to be ab...

Re: The Motherload

Along a similar vein, what are the rules for welding things TO the boiler? It's on the outside, and it's not pressure bearing directly, but presumably the spot where you weld is now slightly weaker...

Re: Design considerations for long trips

So, I did a bit of math. Not an exact science especially when I don't have real performance numbers, but I can come up with some decent approximations. The boat is going to weigh about 7000 lbs when she's done, and I'm standing on the deck. That means i'm going to need about 7 hp to drive her at a r...

Re: Type of Wood for Hull

Thanks!

The boat i'm going to build eventually is a strip planked hull. I've found one or two books on that, that I want to take a peek at, and I'd welcome more.

Presumably ASME code has changed since this boiler was constructed? As they said there was no flaw in design or construction...
