Re: Alphington Steam launch

I have now applied the second layer of 10oz cloth to the hull and I am almost ready to paint. I can't buy proprietary brass or SS keel band here in Vietnam so I made my own by milling some rads onto brass strips. The bans was temporarily screwed into place then removed, all screw holes drilled out a...

Re: Alphington Steam launch

Perhaps it's best not to think about the amount of work involved with finishing the inside of the hull and fitting out!

Looking forward to it. Still need to build the boiler.

Re: Alphington Steam launch

After a little diversion onto other projects I am back to working on my launch. I have now glued and bolted the outer stem and keel onto the boat and the keel and stem have been sheathed in 10oz glass. The hull has been sanded all over and is ready for the second and final layer of 10oz glass that w...

Re: Alphington Steam launch

Wow! What a lovely set of curves. It almost seems a pity that the underwater shape of the hulls of our boats seldom get seen. Thanks Pete, I am thinking that my launch will spend 99% of it's life sitting on it's trailer with a top cover on it, the underneath will be seen more often than the inside ...

Doing a fine job on it, looks good.
Thanks, with any luck I will be ready to flip it over in a couple of weeks. I'm getting read to steam the lamination for the outer stem today.

Re: Alphington Steam launch

I usually glue the scraps together to make a table top, be it a hardwood flooring job, or boat building planking, etc.
Yes, I can say that very little wood scrap makes it into the bin around here, it all gets used up making jigs for our production shop, tool holders for our benches etc.
