Building the Elliot Bay triple

I thought I would post a link to another forum where I am documenting my trials and tribulations (mostly self induced) in building this engine. I hope that it will be of some help to others who wish to take on this project. It is definately a beautiful engine, and my hope is that I dont screw it up....

It looks like I have at least two tubes leaking at the rolled flange. I read elsewhere on the forum that "radiator fix" products can stop such leaks. I don't have a tubing expander. If I did, I would try swedging. can I rent one somewhere?
You can often find tube rollers on ebay.

Re: Boiler feed pump ?

Contact Pat Spurlock of Elliot Bay Steam Launch. I think he has castings for one that is gear driven off the shaft.

Re: Re-magnetizing a Bergen-Nautik Compass

A while back I bought a small compas that was liquid filled. I can't remember the name of the manufacturer, but they were still in business. I called to ask what kind of liquid they used, since it was low. They told me that regular cigarette lighter fluid is what they used. I tried it, and there doe...

Re: Knocking ??

Something you might want to look at would be a possible loose piston. Or maybe check your strike points to see if anything has changed.

Not much as far as private steam launches are concerned. However I have volnteered as a fireman/oiler on the steamer Virginia V which is a 122 ft wooden hulled steamer in Seattle. She has a tripple expansion engine also.

Re: Greetings from Washington State

Thanks Ken, Recently Pat Spurlock with a good friend of mine Keith Sturmburg did a lot of revising of the drawings and some of the castings to hopefully resolve some of the issues that folks had. I just got started on machining the bedplate, so I'm not too far into it yet. I had to have a surgery re...
