Re: A new-old 25' launch

Well, A friend and I made the trip over to the Muskoka area of Ontario this past weekend to deliver the hull to a very talented local (if not to me...) craftsman for an initial survey and stabilization. I'll keep you posted... Photo is on a rainy morning in Barry's Bay, Ontario, next to one of the o...

Re: A new-old 25' launch

As others have said, restoring the hull to "new" condition is a very skilled job, and expensive, and furthermore is dubious from the point of view of conservation, because a lot of slightly rotten but original timbers will need to be thrown away. As Pete says, documenting the hull is as important a...

Re: A new-old 25' launch

At this point, the only thing I'm sure of is that I've just stepped onto a steep learning curve! Seriously though, the plan is to take the hull to a shipwright for a thorough evaluation. Gallanach, I'm sorry to hear that your experience with an original boat didn't work out, restoration of anything ...

A new-old 25' launch

Hi everybody, I'm happy to be able to say that after years of dreaming and planning, and a good dose of serendipity, I'm in the very early stages of putting together a new steam launch. Nearly a year ago, Greg Simpson got in touch to say that he'd become aware of an interesting pre-1900 wooden hull ...

Re: My column-style steamengine

That will no doubt work like a wonder and has the added advantage of looking much nicer than the ball valve ;)

Re: Southworth Steam Pump 12" for sale plus other stuff

Hi Severn,

I sent you a PM. I'm curious to know if the pump might still be available.

Cheers,

Re: Modern History

Ha!

Mike: too funny. I’ll keep my eyes open and you let me know if you spot any steals. Thanks for the welcome!

As for steel hulls. I’m sort of in the young and stupid category, and I have this idea that I’d like a wooden hull. Maybe reading more will change my mind....

Modern History

Good evening ladies and gents, I've been flipping through the pages of Steamboats and Modern Steam Launches and have been trying to soak up as much info as I can... But I was struck by two things: the seeming availability (for those willing to dig hard enough!) of well-built engines. In the classifi...
