Re: Fiction that involve steamboating or inspire your steamb
Ron, Sorry, I should have replied sooner. I think they were just doing a little dance round their beer. If it was a Sunday, they would be allowed to buy drink as they would have been 'bona fide travellers!' In Scotland there is still one puffer operating, though now the cargo is tourists! The VIC32 ...

How about from the home of steam stories of the 'puffers'. The 'vital Spark', and 'The Maggie' are 2 favourites

Re: Weighing a boat with bathroom scales
There must be a public weigh bridge near you. 2 visits; one with the boat on the trailer, the other without. Simple arithmetic does the rest.
When thinking of your new trailer, consider 2 wheels are very much easier to manoeuvre than 4

Re: Primary leads or lags secondary?
Make sure there is no air in the system. Open the valve to bypass pumped water back to the hot well or wherever for enough time to blow any air out of the pipe between pump and boiler. Then your pump should be fine.

Re: Lubrication free condensing?
Pete,
I am not an expert, but I understand the Waverley relies on the water condensed from the steam for lubrication.

Re: UK boiler regulations
I certainly agree that a boiler should regularly be tested to ensure it is safe to use. AND I am closest to my boiler when it is in use. However, I have always understood this is voluntary. Your insurance company may require it, though I think the wording is 'you may not be insured if the boiler doe...

I don't think you have stated what size the lined hole is. I'm guessing it may have been for the bolts that held legs in place to keep her upright when not afloat. There would also have been guys fore and aft to help keep the leg in place.

Re: Mooring in UK canal marina
There are suggestions of allowing the boiler to cool enough to take the funnel off and put on the cover. Have you thought about a boat with a canopy? This catches all the soot that goes up the funnel, helping to keep the boat clean, and, in our British climate, keeps the rain, and occasionally sun, ...

Re: Trying to contact Gary Smith owner of Steam Launch Carol
I bought Carol Ann from Victor Ware who had bought her from R. E. Mitchell who built her and called her 'Jastelle'. She has always been this side of the Atlantic. The Carol Annyou are looking for is another boat.

Re: Trying to contact Gary Smith owner of Steam Launch Carol
Are you sure of the boat name? Carol Ann was owned by Victor Ware, briefly, who sold her to me. I have renamed her Silkie2. No one of the name Gary Smith has, to my knowledge, been involved with her.
