Re: cleaning out a boiler
Some would say that using the compressed air introduces oxygen in the boiler and you don't want that for corrosion. I second the TSP and pressure treatments. Solvents, suds, and various other things will make a boiler prime a lot and can some times take a good number of blowdowns to tame. TSP should...

Re: ejector
There are some great cross sections of ejectors and even injectors from penberthy on the web and in their literature. You can make quite an efficient ejector scaleing off their cross sections for the ports/jets. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O3hpFa5CSj0/Uk_tupKr0wI/AAAAAAAABvk/60TinRY1vwU/s1600/Ejector....

Re: Piston Clearance - Edwards Air Pump
Truthfully, it could have been a little looser, but I don't have any notes or measurements from when it was made. It was a REALLY nice fit though and if the valve was placed on the cylinder, it took quite a while for the piston to drop out from the vacuum. The cylinder casting, liner, and piston wer...

Re: Piston Clearance - Edwards Air Pump
I had a pretty close fit, probably about 0.0015 to 0.0025" for my pumps making sure they didn't bind. Those groves do wonders for sealing with a little water and you don't need rings. O-rings would cut instantly on the ports and regular style split rings would be a mess. With a good fit, they d...

Re: Piston Clearance - Edwards Air Pump
Is the Edwards design similar to the Bailey and Navy air pumps with the inlet port in the middle of the cylinder and valves on each end? Crescent had a Bailey/Navy Style pump and the few I built had basically zero clearance from the piston to the valves. You want that zero clearance to evacuate all ...

Re: Ofeldt Blueflame Kerosene burner
Great Looking burner! I've shifted right now from Steamboats to Stanley's, so I'm familiar with the vaporizing burners. I like some of the details you got there and some features might be nice for a new burner build I'll be doing in the future. What fuel pressures are you running? Did you do any tes...

Come out to Cabin Fever Expo April 10-12, 2015 at the York Expo Center in York, PA. There are model and full size steam boats a...

Re: Water tube boiler liner and casing.
Most Stanley Car owners now use 310S stainless as a liner inside the burner. It can handle more heat and no oxidize like otehr stainless alloys. I would think this should give good service for you as well.
