Re: Steam Yacht Cangarda FOR SALE
I was on the delivery crew that took her from San Diego to Ensenada where she was loaded aboard the Beluga Fairy for the trip to the east coast. I'll have to see if I can find the pictures of her hanging from the slings over the ship's deck. I was also the skipper of Medea for the "Great Steam Yacht...

Ex Canadian hydrographic survey ship William J Stewart. Looks like it was towed away in October to be scrapped. Damn.

Re: what material for steam engine round columns ?
I used 303 Stainless on a Keeley single I'm building. Not bad machining and looks good.

Re: Navy 1914 "K"model engine
I recall the boat did have a canopy and a quick web search found a couple of pictures that showed the boats at the park. When I first noticed the boat it was at a storage yard on Placentia Ave in Costa Mesa, CA. By the time I moved my own boat into the yard the launch was gone. I'm pretty sure the b...

I can't say anything about the machinery but I'm pretty sure the hull started out at Busch Gardens in Los Angeles. I remember a number of these hulls that were sold when the park closed. One was sitting in a boatyard in Costa Mesa and had a steam plant installed so I wonder if that is your boat?

Re: TSS Earnslaw video
I visited her in '99 and got invited below the gratings after showing the crew a picture of Medea. Wound up firing the starboard boiler for the trip. There is an art to firing and I didn't have enough time to learn it! A great bunch of people and a beautiful ship.

I'm sorry to hear that. I gave Wally a tour of Medea and Berkeley when he was engineer on HMB Endeavor visiting San Diego and he showed me all the behind the scenes areas on Endeavor.

Re: Natchez vs Robert E Lee Steamboat Race
I was lucky enough to go out on the Eppie in '75 along with Scott Newhall, Karl Kortum and Scott Nicoll of the original restoration and delivery crew. I had flown up for several weekends from So Cal to help get her back in steaming condition and got the invitation because of that. I was told that th...
