A new steam yacht - SY Befur

Our steam yacht project (SY Befur) seems to be finished, and here is a record of her first sailing/steaming day on Windermere. (With lots of pictures and another lesson learnt for Leak Compound builders)

Re: Forgings/Castings for Leak Compound?

I see that I should have replied earlier... Mr Webster was good enough to donate the aforementioned wooden pattern, and I had this cast in SGI by a fine foundry in Huddersfield (and later cast a 2nd for an SBA member in Holland). Re: Oil burner consumption

Thanks Malcolm. Figures out to around 3 g.p.h. in imperial units. And comparing boats my little launch should use more like 2 or less. Mike, just re-read this... I may have misunderstood your comment, but my figures were already in US Gallons - so I think (given on v off time) the consumption shoul...

Re: Oil burner consumption

"The Clyde puffers were very successful little craft, for about a century, and the great majority had single cylinder engines with absolutely no frills, not even a superheater in most cases. "...

However, they were all condensing engines....

Re: Oil burner consumption

Befur (27ft) uses a 1.75Gph burner nozzle on Diesel and runs a duty cycle of about 75:25 (on v off), driving a Leak Compound.
