Re: Fire Space for small solid fuel boilers

Hi Kelly and Bart, Thank you both for the feedback. It's that 6.1" number I was wondering about - that gives me a great reference to work with. Bart, my intention was try firing on hardwood wood chips or homemade charcoal. My goal is to have the boiler be large enough that it can supply adequate ste...

Fire Space for small solid fuel boilers

I am looking for guidance for how much firespace is required for very small solid fueled boilers. I am putting together a power plant for a canoe, where weight and center of gravity are obviously critical. I am thinking of very small roberts, express, or 2-drum type boiler, with a 4" steam drum. Con...

27' Triple Expansion Tugboat Project

It's time to sell the tug. I bought this boat - the "Spirit of Algoma" in 2009 after chancing across her in a Milwaukee boatyard. The boat was not in running condition then, but had been run in the prior 5 years (presumaby by someone attempting suicide by boiler). I removed and scrapped the suicide ...

Re: Mono-tube boiler website

Hi Pete and Bart, I am also considering a similar overfeed/underfeed with accumulator plan. I was thinking of a more analog system with a double-acting feed pump where one side of the feed pump would always feed the coil, but the other side would have a bypass controlled by a stanley type or similar...

Re: Mono-tube boiler website

Hi Pete, Sounds wonderful! Will Lamont boilers and the like be allowed on the site as fellow travellers? I have a hot water pressure washer coil I had made with the intention of running my 20' boat with it. If I every have a minute to make some progress on the d**n thing I'd love to share it with th...

Re: Steamboating Magazine - Back Issue

I think I have all the issues from Ron's editorship. I'll see if I can find that one and make a digital copy this weekend.

Thanks for sharing the video! What pressure were you running at? Were you happy with the performance of the pump?

Cheers,
Scott

Re: Idea: Espresso pump

The coil from Farley's is $850, plus shipping (around $125 for me to get it from Arkansas to Chicago). That's for about a 40 sf coil. I checked with my local Hotsy dealer, and a standard coil as a spare part for one of their machines is $400. However, I think that's a 14" diameter coil, so probably ...
