Re: DetroiTug's Tug is going together
After a long hiatus with steaming along on four wheels it's time to go steamboating with Iron Chief again. Pulling a hydro and getting her wooded and oiled up for a two day run. Really looking forward to it. It may be the last time I fire this VFT, the next big project is to reboiler her with an Of...

Re: Steam blower
I fitted a stack blower to Artemis to prevent "blowout" of the steam atomizing burner. I used a pressure reducer set to 19 psi to allow for a good flame modulation. I attached a 1/4" pipe to the regulated side of the regulator. This went into the stack ABOVE the damper (I burned wood to build up ini...

Re: Drain or Fill Boiler for Winter Storage?
 Before digging into the boiler, I suggest you get in touch with your local Bryan representative, or contact the company through their website. I installed the engines, plumbing and boiler in Dave Larson's 38-1/2 foot boat and it uses a Bryan boiler similar to the one you've got. The company i...

Re: Hull design
Well - guess I'll have a try at this. Based on about 70 years in and around wooden boats of all kinds in the Puget Sound area - 1. The shape of the bow and the hull generally would indicate original build as a sailboat. Probably fitted with a weighted keel. 2. As there is no evidence of any engine s...

Re: Tiny Power M Twin Build
Bin using neverseize for years! Like don't leave home without it! Ayep! Give all mating surfaces (including threads on bolts!) a light coat of never seize. Give the "cover", "plate", "head", whatever, a light tap on the edge to "break the bond" and it falls apart. I've heard stories from mechanics ...

Re: K. N. Harris' Twin Launch Engine
Sometimes "knowledge" just gets misplaced. But that can be as much a death to it as the burning of the Library at Alexandria. Sigh.
