The Newton Coil Boiler Design

Hi Steamboating Colleagues I had an interesting discussion today with a well known SBA colleague and he mentioned the Newton Coil Boiler. I quickly realised that this was a design with which I was not familiar and such knowledge was not pertinent to the conversation. However, the implication of the ...

Re: Steam engine from the North Caucasus

Hi Ingvar

Thanks for keeping on posting the stages in your build. It is so nice to see a beautiful engine come together, as with Mike Rometer's build, so please keep going for those of us who are 'arm chair' machinists.

Hope you are getting some warmer temperatures now.

Regards

Re: Metal packing vs. stuffing box

Hi Russ For topsy turvey photos the trick I use is to import(open) the photo into (say) Paint.net and then use their tools to get it the right way up should it be the wrong way. Most likely not. Next stage is to use Crop to take a few pixels off all the way around the photo. Now save it as PHOTONAME...

Re: Wooding up at Night

Yes, amusing cartoon full of period detail. Am I seeing things or is the person holding up the smoky lantern actually wearing a Coolie hat. Would that be meant to imply that Chinese labour was being used? I know a great many Chinese workers were used on the Canadian Pacific railway. The man standing...

Re: Steam Atomizing Burner

Hi Folks I am most interested by the design but I need to show my ignorance to fully understand it. I was expecting to see a small (say) 1-2mm nozzle hole at the firing end similar to the old Primus stoves. However, it looks as if the nozzle is the whole of the diameter of the bell reducer. Is that ...

Re: New to Forum

Welcome Brian

Your organisation looks to be doing great things. You may find that this happy bunch tend to work with slightly smaller vessels but will have much in common. We look forward to hearing your views in our varied discussions.

Re: Building a Big Engine

Hi Folks This sounds an interesting thread and the original issue of not having CAD drawings sounds to be as good as overcome. However, just in case it might be useful to you, it is possible to find free online sites that will convert files. Drawing files in Corel format or PDF should be no problem ...

Re: Wishing you the Best on US Thanksgiving Day

Hi to our Friends Across the Water Thanks for the Greetings. Knowing it was Thanksgiving, and knowing that today (Friday) is Black Friday, I thought I would be a little bit naughty on my shopping trip yesterday. Almost all the shops I went to from the big chains had big 'Black Friday Deals' posters ...

Re: My column-style steamengine

A marvelous piece of work and an example to those of us are rather less skilled metal workers. Please keep going as I want to see what you plan next.

Re: Steam engine from the North Caucasus

Hi Wes & fellow steamboaters On the topic of the Photobucket theft of our photos, there is a solution which does not involve cash payment to them. The Firefox Web Browser appears to have some kind of tweek that excludes their attempted copyright marking on one's photos. So, if your photos are only o...
