Re: An Invitation to the Raquette Lake Steamboat Camp

Hi Kelly

Idle thought from across the Pond. I liked the old post card of the lake side railway station. I wondered if the railway to the lake is still in and functional?

Re: Steam engine from the North Caucasus

Hi Ingvar and Friends Yes indeed, I do like the pieces that you are making. I think that you and Mike Rometer (and Fred!) are doing great things in building and displaying these engines and although I envy your skills, I appreciate that it takes a long time to get to that level of competence. Given ...

Re: Steam engine from the North Caucasus

How nice to be able to get slices of bronze in large diameters. I have had a quick Google here and nothing came up anywhere near 25cm diameter. I will investigate further!

Nice pictures!

Re: Ignorance Exposed

Thanks CyberBadger & Fred I am grateful for you assistance and suggestions. Since posting the request I found a tutorial on transposing equations and found that it was nicely pitched. Of course, having gone through it I did the first two exercises in the list at the end and got them right. Confident...

Ignorance Exposed

Hi Steamboating Colleagues I am having a great time with my new copy of Gerr's Propeller Handbook but have now hit a snag. I wish to transpose one of his formulae but my algebraic skills are on the wrong side of rusty. I have made several attempts, then put numbers in and got obvious rubbish out. Pl...

Nice to see you are still making progress.

That bronze looks lovely. Such a nice metal.

Re: Antidote to Cabin Fever?

The output I have generated using Dave Gerr's book is as follows. Some items do not seem to be quite right to me. Part of the problem is that for such a small light boat the calcs are all off the bottom of his charts. Power requirement (SHP) = 0.47 HP SL = 0.088 Estimated Slip = 0.583% Suggested pro...

Re: Antidote to Cabin Fever?

Hi Everybody Here in Wales the Welsh Government has lifted most of the Covid 19 restrictions, but it looks as if nobody told the Weather Department. It is cold (10.9 degrees C), windy and wet which made it seem ideal for yet another session in the Office with the computer. However, this time I have ...
