Re: Engine mounting angle?

Many old books and even the Elliot Bay instructions suggest mounting the engine firmly on jack screws, dialing it in with an indicator to be perfectly aligned with the shaft, damming and pouring grout...this method is great if you plan on keeping the engine for your entire life. Channel 69 did an extensive interview with Charlie Roth about the North American Steamboat Association and also some drone footage. Channel 6 took a nice long ride in our boat and inter...

Re: Oil inside the condenser

are you running a superheater or dryer? does your engine have a typical D slide valve? Reason I ask is general practice on marine steam even on large ships was no oil in the cylinders and let the steam create an isolator if you will between the cylinder and piston. We did not run any oil on our firs...

Re: How to Install Brass Trim Between Hull and Deck??

The others are correct you do not want to use brass, definitely naval bronze which will be hard to find. When my father purchased our Elliot Bay he bought 1" and 3/4" directly from Pat Spurlock and it came home from Portland in the bilge, having it shipped will not be cheap and neither will the mate...

Re: British Rivet Manufacturers?

I think Kelly would be the one to know about rivets being inferior in the USA, He is the VP of motive power at Strasburg Railroad, one of the leading tourist steam operations in America. I would wonder if Strasburg makes their own at all ? I know they manufacture injectors, safety valves and staybol...

Re: Milwaukee M18 Transfer Pump

I work in the construction field and have a plethora of Dewalt tools but I also have few Milwaukee tools and The battery life of a M18 is really about 4 of Dewalt, I have a cordless bolt gun (large caulk sausages) and I caulked about 25 60' tall by 180' long windows with a 1/2" - 3/4" joint all the ...

Re: Lake Nockamixon Meets?

Fred, I love running the meet and have met many great people who have steamboats, are wannabes or just stumbled upon the meet and would like a ride. hoping to be back in the water soon and it is nice to hear a Thank-you once in a while....the October meet is fun but tiring and I sink a fair amount o...
