Yes I remember meeting you, and yes I think Rachel Z is my favorite also and I have known all 5 of his boats quite well, fired or operated every one of them except for Adamy 1 which was quite small, hope she stays semi close.

Re: For Sale-20’ steam powered tug boat replica with trailer

Great boat folks, this is owned by the founder of the North American Steamboat Association and it is his 4th of 5 full size steamboats. my father, myself and my son have had many rides aboard when not in our own steam launch.

Re: Hello from Idaho

Hello, would this be the boat from PA you speak of ? her name is Muskrat owned by Livingston Morris with a Stuart 1, the engine has built up wrist pins and I believe built up cranks to withstand the demand of constant use but I do not think in the 23 years I have been part of the Lake Nockamixon Mee...

Rainer,

One place I love visiting is the Cog Railway on Mt Washington, However they are mostly diesel powered now but still worth the ride if you have time.

Re: steam gauge glass

Mike R is correct, 2mm glass is normal and almost any glazier can cut it, I know this because I am a glazier by trade and many cannot cut glass anymore, but any glass shop can do it. nowadays the glass is mostly heat strengthened or tempered in construction so glaziers do not cut alot of glass...I h...

Re: wet steam

yes, both ways work, isolating each valve independently, also watching the glass before and after is a good idea, sometimes you can actually see a change in the water level after blowdown.

Re: wet steam

some newer VFT boilers do not come with a placement for tri cocks and are not necessary but nice to have if you actually know how to use them, I have worked with people who don't. I blow down my boiler and my glass at least once a day. A good way to clear the orfices on your gauge glass which can cl...
