Thanks Fred.
It is similar to "notching up" on locomotives I guess.
I expect the 5a if more than enough power for what I want but they are the castings I have to hand and so if I beefed up the bearing surfaces it should provide an ideal power plant.
Thanks.

Re: Boiler for a Stuart 5A
To run a Stuart 5A with a smaller boiler, for a smaller steamboat, can the bore be reduced down to 2" or a little less. Is there any problem to do this to match the engine with the boiler output to drive a smaller mass boat? I ask this in relation to the Bill Durham Donkey Boiler which would maybe g...

Re: Durham Donkey Boiler
Fred. The barrel is 14" OD with a wall thickness of 8mm. The pipe is drawn seamless drill casing of similar standard to Sched 40. I was told verbally the specs but cannot remember just now. I was just looking for the pipe first before I did any further planning. The boiler can only be maximum of 14"...

Re: Durham Donkey Boiler
Hi Ron. Thank you for all the information. It is good to hear that they are considered good steamers. I have the essential specifications from the page in the book, no of tubes, tube dia etc to give to my designer. The boiler would be made under the Australian Miniataure Boiler Safety Code (AMBSC) w...

Durham Donkey Boiler
Hi, A long time since I posted anything but I would like to build a simple (Small) VFT Steamboat boiler and see the Bill Durham Donkey Boiler listed in the January-February 1962 edition of Stemboat and Modern Steam launches. I have located a length of 14" Schd pipe for the barrel and will have the d...

Re: Blackstaff boilers in copper.
Mike. Do you see or have you seen those items lists in "The Funnel" Guess it would be a little difficult to keep the fire tamed in such a boiler?Sure the pressure can be released with an appropriate safety but obviously most of the generated steam would be wasted. I guess this does then restrict thi...

Re: Blackstaff boilers in copper.
Fredrosse. Yes thankyou and comments noted . I see listed in the lastest SBA(UK) book two Blackstaffe boilers listed for sale and though it might be a good start. My friend tells me to ask first about this all copper assembly due to the heating. apparently a UK boiler maker went out of business and ...

Re: Lune Valley Boiler WTB1
Mike. I am looking to build something along the lines of Reciproca, Kelly Andersons old boat which obviously is easily driven and easily constructed from ply and epoxy. No drawings available so will to do it myself. She is everything I want in a steam powered boat. Will draw up and build a 1/4 size ...
