Re: Old video on a Steam Tug

Leaving all the torpedo violence aside for a minute and back to the original thread. What a gem of a video you've found . I have very happy memories being in the engine room of the tug St Merryn, which had a 1000 HP , Canadian built, triple expansion and being mesmerized by the the entire experience....

Re: Rally Attendance ?

In August we held the annual gathering of the NSC ( Dutch steam launch Collective) at the National Steam Engine museum in Medemblik with a total attendance of 7 boats, with one paddle steamer on shore in the process of being built. During the 2 day event we took about nine hundred passengers for sho...

Re: P.S. Waverley

It Seems to me that the lifespan of these modern boilers is getting less . Her original double ended scotch boiler lasted 34 years wheras the last 2 sets only lasted 19 years each. I do hope they find the funds to replace these as nothing in the world compares to that big Rankin & Blackmore triple e...

Re: Unknown engine - HELP identifying please

As a Dutchman I don't recognise this as a Dutch engine. I have a single cylinder here in my workshop , made by " Machinefabriek De Klop" in the town of Sliedrecht and I've seen a few Dutch fan or pump engines and a lot of them tend to have a cast column supporting the crosshead guide rather than the...

Re: Hello from The Netherlands

Hallo Han . Bij deze welkom op het forum. Er zijn nog een stuk meer " stoomboot gekken " hier in Nederland but compared to out neighbouring countries our number is insignificant. The good news on the other hand is that , this being a small country , we can and do see each other quite regularly and g...

Re: Building first steamlaunch; Blackstaff boiler and Stuart

Hello Kees. I gather you want to avoid building a boiler that falls in the category that doesn't need inspection and I do understand that. But have a " high " pressure boiler would give you a lot more power and you could run the boat as a " puffer". Living here in the Netherlands I know about the fe...

Re: Hallo from the Lake District in Holland

Beste Stoomsnor Welcome to the forum. As you've seen it provides a wealth of information and enlightenment and entertainment. I'm glad there is another " old codger" joining the ranks of steam boat enthusiasts here in the Netherlands. For a country with such a long maritime tradition and such an abu...

Re: UK boiler regulations

" As I understand it, the EU pressure vessels directive, as turned into UK legislation by the Whitehall Mandarins, exempts hobby steam launches from the rules applying to ships. However, they are not exempted from boiler testing. In other parts of the EU the Directive is differently interpreted and ...
