Re: Getting a boiler built in or Rochester New York
I’m simply looking for a boiler that can run two ray hasbrouck number one engines that will be made into a twin cylinder set up and is a total of 4 hp at 500 rpm. I need a boiler that is bulletproof and very user friendly with a novice operator. I’d prefer it to wood fired because it’s readily avail...

Getting a boiler built in or Rochester New York
I would like to either get a vertical fire tube boiler or the ofdeft style one I posted with this post in a 20 inch diameter. Anyone know where I can get one built or get the steel to build it myself with taking the liability of it if something goes wrong.

Re: need help building a wood fired vertical fire tube boile
There is a process of .045 flux core that uses co2 shielding gas as part of the process. I have no problem welding with 7018 its a nice running rod. Thanks for all the help I posted in a separate thread of the engines I'm looking at converting for this project. Please weigh in on what you think

looking to build a steam fire engine need help with a engine
http://hasbrouck.8m.com/eng5.htm. I'm possibly looking to make this engine work for my needs. Here is the problem though, it needs to be double in size and I need to widen the connector rod area to fit in a another one to run the pump underneath the engine. Reguardless this is a no castings steam bo...

Re: need help building a wood fired vertical fire tube boile
Well I'm actually a welder by trade so tig and stick welding are not a issue. My uncle has also welded for 40 some odd years plus he has built boilers and actually a couple patented parts. So the welding part of it doesn't scare me one bit. Would flux core mig with co2 shielding gas work instead of ...

So as I'm getting with the water leg is that it's a inner ring that it is in the fire box with boiler water behind it. Not only would you be heating the base of th tubes but also the ring increasing your heating surface area considerably

Re: need help building a wood fired vertical fire tube boile
Thank you very much for that link it definitely helped out with what you guys were talking about. That boiler seems like it would be perfect size as well. Now I've just got to find out how to build a engine.

Re: need help building a wood fired vertical fire tube boile
I'd like to make it as traditional as possible, the biggest thing is I won't be able to use a "stock" crank because I need to fit two connecting rods in on the crank. One for the engine and one for the pump. I'd also like to build a channel iron frame for it. I've seen engines with this ty...

Re: need help building a wood fired vertical fire tube boile
That will be a fairly large boiler. That is the size of my VFT-30 measured on the outside of the insulation and lagging. I believe the outside of the shell is 18". I have 2" of fiberglass blanket and then the wood. I can work my 3 x 4 simple engine rather hard without forced draft. You ar...
