Re: 12v feed pump?

It works more consistently at 100# than 40#. Injectors certainly only work in certain PSI steam ranges. Which injector and model do you have? Some are more suited towards wider ranges. It's better to try and use it more often for shorter periods so you can try and keep your steam pressure more cons...

Penberthy Demonstration

Been making a lot of videos lately. Here is a video yesterday of the high pressure penberthy steam injector and a little bit of general operation/theory. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tdjVGu0oOs Yes I know that this quite an injection of water from a low water level for this boiler. It's hard doin...

Re: Smokebox draft blower ring

I'm pretty happy with the result. I don't intend leaving it on for long periods (more then a few minutes). My buddy may want to try some other designs, I told him to go for it.

Smokebox draft blower ring

I asked my buddy to make a blower draft ring for the smokebox/smokehood on my new VFT and he came back with this. We are curious to see if these hacksaw made orifices work decently as drilled holes. I think it should work, I'll see how well. I just wanted something to turn on the draft for 10's of s...

Re: Injector/Intake Water PSA

"Could have been from an Apollo check valve..." I've had very good service from Apollo valves.... I wasn't trying to knock Apollo - just try and figure out the likely source of my shaving. I think in the end I it was a piece of crappy schedule 40 black iron close nipple from Lowes - I use for some ...

Re: Injector/Intake Water PSA

Could have been from an Apollo check valve...

I like Nibco globe valves, but I have found nasty burrs on brand new ones. :(

Where is their quality control, this isn't even complicated just needs a 5 sec look by a human or vision system.

Injector/Intake Water PSA

You can't make stuff up this good! I was undoing some piping on my boiler to add in line Y strainers for both the water and steam inlets for both of my injectors. I did not make this up! This is what I found inside, easily could of gotten caught in the injector jets and caused a bad day and another ...

Re: Auxilliary Engine and Wind Blue Permanent Magnet Alterna

I wouldn't fret a bit about the efficiency of your alternator. I'm not fretting at all. It's going onto the my launch with the boiler. It's 22 lbs altogether alternator and stuart. The visual interest is excellent, it's a good demonstrator for those who think steam power is complete magic (which it...

Re: Auxilliary Engine and Wind Blue Permanent Magnet Alterna

Got some time to fix some of the issues today and steam up and make some electricity. 8-) My stuart is knocking. I think I need to adjust the timing. :/ I've got a little DC watt meter in the mail. The light dimming is from the permanent magnet cogging - I kind of like the effect, some capacitors mi...

Re: Auxilliary Engine and Wind Blue Permanent Magnet Alterna

Took apart the alternator. That's a 12VDC light bulb in the picture for reference. The permanent magnet grabbed this teeny drill bit. http://i.imgur.com/gzhC6sSl.jpg A well made small model engine is happier running in my humble opinion. Besides, lets me run something small as a conversation piece i...
