Re: Wooden bearings

<snip> Never really understood why the bronze bushing failed, the belt tension was reasonable and these servos endure daily service for many years without failure with belted transmission, although usually as driver, not driven. Anyways, it's held up since the repair. Ron Servos and Steppers aren't...

Re: Wooden bearings

No need to guess https://www.qbcbearings.com/TechInfo/PDF/PlasticBearings.pdf Many factors go into selecting a bearing. Pressure and RPM are part of it, service conditions are important as well. Agricultural bearings run in dirty conditions often with little lubrication or chance of being service pr...

Re: digital steam engine indicator

I picked up these transducers. Expensive. Work with an app on phone or tablet via Bluetooth. https://transducersdirect.com/product-category/pressure-transducers/wireless-pressure-transducers/ How do you pipe one of these sensors up, the datasheet says "40 to 185°F". My boiler gives between 350-384F...

Re: 4x6 Import Bandsaw Upgrade & Tune-up

Harbor freight sells these 4x6 bandsaws, and they are sold by a fewer other companies, they are all from the same factory in China. Thanks for sharing the video, I was baffled by the need for the plate however. That should have been correctable using the height stop and tweaking the bit of sheet me...

Re: Show us your jewelry

I use these on the tug, they work just fine, a little more troublesome than flipping a switch, but definitely worth the nostalgic value. I have one of those with the with the large reflectors in perfect condition, paid a lot for it, they are sort of rare. Looks like a Wilcox Crittendon? Perko and S...

Show us your jewelry

Hey all, Taking a break from the engine to complete the restoration of three onion top navigation lanterns. All were pretty tatty looking when I purchased them. One had been disassembled by the previous owner in a misguided attempt to clean it and needed to be soldered back together. Need to build r...

Re: Vintage Steam Engine.

Make your own shim packs. I sandwich the shim material between 1/8 aluminum plates then drill holes and mill as needed. The shims for the lower conrod bearing were drilled then put into the assembly and filed to the profile.

Re: More progress

Thanks Pete,

Now their is even more to be mesmerized by.

It's alive!!!!!

I'm pretty chuffed as my UK friends would say.

Video of the first run of the HP end on compressed air. Needs a bit of tweaking as it's not reversing well yet but it's a start.

Re: More progress

I guess it's been awhile since posting progress updates on the York. Not that none is being made, just a bit here and there and not thinking about taking pics. So here is the most recent work. The eccentrics have been redone to better fit the crankshaft which came out a few though' undersized after ...
