OK, I'm in the throes of building an Olfelt to replace my old Semple, a LOT of coiling! Now in the process of drilling the centre pipe BUT before I go any farther, I've been thinkin' ( BAD idea) As anyone tried a water wall around the firebox ( on an Olfelt type)? Yes I did try one for a season and it did work fine BUT it's hard to really turn down the oil flow to not get too much into the hotwell. I've removed it and have a manual oiler valve assembly on the top of the HP cylinder, IF I hear any groaning out of the motor (mostly at lower speeds) I give it a ...

I use a whistle valve on mine, mounted on the receiver with a pipe to HP steam chest, just hit the lever and off it goes. BUT this only works when the engine is up to temp, if too cool hydrolocking is a possiblity! No it doesn't matter about backpressure on HP, you don't run it simpled just bump it ...

I too am using a hypro, chain driven to the prop shaft, the pump is quiet but you do hear a little chain noise even though it's mounted under the floor board. It is bolted to the cabin wall and I think that amplifies it.. I've also got an injector (1/2in Penberthy) which CAN fill the boiler in a hur...
