Mike R is correct, 2mm glass is normal and almost any glazier can cut it, I know this because I am a glazier by trade and many cannot cut glass anymore, but any glass shop can do it. nowadays the glass is mostly heat strengthened or tempered in construction so glaziers do not cut alot of glass...I h...

yes, both ways work, isolating each valve independently, also watching the glass before and after is a good idea, sometimes you can actually see a change in the water level after blowdown.

some newer VFT boilers do not come with a placement for tri cocks and are not necessary but nice to have if you actually know how to use them, I have worked with people who don't. I do not have a superheater but have considered it, yes theycan glow red, you mention no isolation....I would have a bypass to isolate the superheater with a safety valve in the superheater so if you closed it off by accident it would not pressurize....no bypass = no getting home if the superheater ...

As Ron said, you want absolutely no air in the boiler as when you pump he boiler full air will compress but water will not, you should have no safety valve on the boiler but a pressure gauge on the boiler and pump are good, I pump it to 1 1/2 times my safety valve pressure once up to pressure I clos...

another way you could make a nice looking hand pump is to buy castings from
Rappahanock Boat works or Pearl Engine Company, there are others as well.
