Re: Steam Thistle Cluaran

Hi Russ That looks a lovely prop and I do hope that it goes well in Cluaran. For those of you on the East Coast, Beckmann's Boatshop used to have a similar slim bladed prop of 18"X28" Narrow blades for $878.75. I bought one in 2008 for Frances Ann but the price was a huge amount less than the curren...

Hi Bart

Thanks for that. Posted late last night and did not check. Now correct.

Best wishes

Mono-tube boiler website

Hi Steamboating Friends SBA member John Emmett and I have got together and created a website devoted to mono-tube steam generators. Why you might ask? Well the technology is light, inexpensive to build and electronic controllers are widely avaiable for little money. Despite all that I can only find ...

Re: Sea Trial

Hi Steve and friends Thanks for that clip. Iona is clearly an excellent craft and seemed not at all bothered by the waves. Your camera person did well too keeping the horizon horizontal and giving us a real feel for the movement. Weatherwise, it looked a pretty pleasant day to be out in a launch. He...

Re: Not Something You See Every Day

Thanks for posting the pictures. It helps to remind us that steamboaters and not all serious folk worried about their slide vales.

Regards

Goodbye to Mike Rometer

It is with considerable sadness that I have to report the passing of Bob Gray (AKA Mike Rometer) after a short illness. Bob was a member of a number of steam related clubs including the SBA and the 7 ¼” Gauge Society but in the case of the former was not a great participant in Events. Thus he will p...

Re: Steam engine from the North Caucasus

Yes indeed I will second that. Nice to see that you are still working on the engine. I do like the 'bits' as everything is large and looks just like I feel steam engines should look. I appreciate the skill that goes into making tiny engines but the big ones have the gretest appeal for me. Looking fo...

Re: Mono-tube steam generators - special adaptations

Hi Bart & Steamboating Friends Yes, I gather condensation is a serious problem. I have been told by a mono-tube boilered SBA Member that he has now given up on his water separator as it was tending to cause condensation of the steam and act rather like a condenser. One wonders if the Hereschoff syst...

Re: Mono-tube steam generators - special adaptations

Hi Fred and Andre Thanks for your observations and thanks for the offer Fred. I must apologise for the slow response but the PC's power supply died and I have been without it for a few days. Happily it is back and I can now get some things done. The shuttle valve is a suggested addition to a mono-tu...

Re: Mono-tube steam generators - special adaptations

Hi Folks Thanks for your observations and yes, my mistake to say pressure when I really meant flow. I will re-work the drawing with your suggestions and may even get as far as making a test piece. Apparently the late Mr White found his home made versions worked well but never left us any dimensions....
