Re: Oil/Water Separator

I have a friend that has great trouble in getting his wife to agree to him spending time let alone money on his hobby projects. When I tell him what I have on my to do list, he replies, "I will know what is on my to do list when my wife gives it to me". He referrers to his wife as the Department of ...

Re: Hello from South Australia

Hi,

I would suggest that you contact the Live Steam model guys in Australia, I have no doubt that they will have answers for you. They have a couple of Facebook Groups, throw the question up there and you will find a few options I am sure.https://www.facebook.com/groups/174843825930887/

Re: practice hull

Here is a further extension to glassing the plywood in advance trick that is used in making large model aircraft and light aircraft wings, this not only saves a lot of time but provides an amazing finish. Take a large sheet of window glass and apply 8-10 coats of wax and buff. Paint the glass with t...

Re: practice hull

Assuming that your boat is going to live on a trailer and not in the water. If you use epoxy on both the inside and outside so as to completely encapsulate the timber you can use basically anything for a core in the sandwich. But, you really need to use glass cloth as a sheathing because otherwise y...

Re: Steam Actuated Inlet Valves?

From microprocessors to battery jumper cables, nothing but the stench of the devil! Yes. my electronics engineers assure me that smoke is actually the secret ingredient inside ICs that makes them work. This is proven they say by the observation that if you let the smoke out of an IC it immediately ...

Re: Steam Actuated Inlet Valves?

Because timing isn't quite as important as the inlet valve, I figured either a uniflow design or cam driven poppet would be suitable. Something to keep in mind if your electronic inlet timing gets a bug in it. While you don't have to be concerned about valves hitting pistons as you do with an IC en...

Re: Steam Actuated Inlet Valves?

Great looking boat Mike, lots of hard work there. I will start glass sheathing the outside of mine next week. I am currently working out how to vacuum bag the mahogany veneer onto my curved transom, so far I have discovered 127 ways to make the bag leak. I am hoping that Blu Tack will be the answer....

Re: Steam Actuated Inlet Valves?

In the spirit of full disclosure, I don't really read yours and I couldn't care less what you think. Obviously that is not quite true, or you would not bother to respond. Perhaps you could consider your own advice; Perhaps when somebody wishes to discuss a way of doing something that that does not ...

Re: Steam Actuated Inlet Valves?

Mike,

It sounds like you have the perfect steam boat design sorted out.

Do you have any pictures of your current boat that I can see?
