Re: Penberthy flow out of the overflow port?

Read the Mar/Apr 2015 issue of Steamboating Magazine to be mailed out next Monday. There's a reprint at the end from an old Penberthy operators manual on how to install and operate a Penberthy (and by extension many other makes of injector). "Cause you're a subscriber you can read it, do it, and hav...

Re: Building Pumps

The (very late due to my illness) Steamboating Magazine Mar/Apr 2015 issue will be in the mail in a couple of days and has a reprinting of about 20 previously published articles on the construction of feedwater pumps. If you don't subscribe, find someone who does and take a look. :D

Re: brass accoutrements for the boat?

Real brass boat parts have become hard to find. Stainless steel is common for chocks, bitts etc. but not suitable for a traditional steamboat. eBay is where I need to search for the proper parts. For the crown of the stack, you can troll the yard sales or ebay for the proper piece, usually found on...

Re: cleaning engine pan?

Any steamboater who pumps water with ANY oily residue from his/her steamboat into the waters upon which it floats should be boiled in his own boiler and buried with a 12" diameter Lunkenheimer whistle up his/her anus!

Re: Oiler pistons

The current issue of The Smokestack magazine has a nice article by John Winn entitled "Lubricator for the Hasbrouck Twin". In it John uses an internal piston metering pump (the pump is used in many chasis lubrication system, pumping a very precise amount of lubricant per stroke, and for this reason ...

Re: Steam launch on ebay

" I wonder if this has any particular effect on the smoke? Or is it just ornamental?" The "King's Crown" type stack outlet, just ornamental, traditional on western riverboats. I would like to find a nice brass ornamental piece to finish off my stack. Sometimes an ornamental brass piece from an umbr...

Re: Information on Surface condensers

Something to be said for being able to regulate the flow with a valve. Wish I could come up with an ingenious way to control how much keel condenser area I'm using depending on temps and load. Yeah, and since it's a centrifugal pump as I decrease the flow through the condenser by creating back pres...

Re: Information on Surface condensers

Back at the end of the last century I owned a sweet, 26', ex-Navy motor whaleboat named Artemis . I live in Portland, OR, at the junction of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers - where the river temperature can be at 76F in the summer and below freezing in the winter. The first year I had her out I h...

Re: Hand pump for boiler feedwater

Good evening Ron, in the page 15 of the sept-oct 1963 issue of Steamboat & Modern Steam Launches, there's an ad for Semple Steam Power. Can you please check your reference as I'm also interested in the subject? Thanx. Whoooops! Should say page 22. Darn fingers get in the way of hitting the r...
