The new forum looks great.
I can appreciate the work and money required to do such a thing.

Re: A New Historical Steam Engine Forum
After battling with my website software for many years, I had reached the conclusion that it could not be fixed, and I would have to shut it down. Luckily late in 2018 I ran across some new forum software called Xenforo, which I really like, and I also found a third-party software person to install ...

Re: Lightning Vulnerability for Steamboats.
A work acquaintance of mine had his ski boat out on a lake in the SE usa, and he had a radio antenna. He said it was not a particularly bad weather day, but one odd looking dark cloud floated over, and lightning struck the antenna mast. At the time his two sons were in the water about to water ski, ...

Re: 7HP Square Cylinder Dake? - Is this legit steam?
The Dakes were robust and very functional engines, but I am not sure I would want to hook one up to a continuous load. One of the other applications for the Dake was as steering engines to move the rudders on large ships. The Dake was perfect for this application because they reverse so easily and q...

I am a bit late to the game here, been busy with any number of things, and actually forgot that this forum existed until for some reason it popped into my head tonight and I remembered to check it. Life has been too busy for me the last few years. Luckily I was able to remember my username and passw...

Re: Locomobile
Ron- Sorry to be late to the party, but I just checked in on this thread after a bit of a hiatus from this forum, and just wanted to say how impressed I am with your work. My dad built a locomobile replica, but yours is considerably more sophisticated than his. This thread brings back many memories....

Re: A New Historical Steam Engine Forum
I still have the site open, although I have converted it to more of a website for steam engine information. It is not really a forum per se. I tried to be all things to all people with the forum thing, and now I realize how impossible that task is. I got discouraged and started to close the site, bu...

Re: First core box
Rainer- I re-read all your posts. I have learned a lot about castings and engines in the last year, and have a better idea of what you are doing now. Looks like outside admission for the HP and LP cylinders? And I think you mentioned a fitting for introducing boiler pressure to the receiver for star...

Re: First core box
That base is a work of art and engineering. The angle sides look very good too. I am corresponding with a guy in Canada who is also building a large format CNC. I can't find the specs on it right now, but I seem to recall is was 1200mm (length) x 600 mm (width) x 450 mm (height). In my discussions w...
