Re: Water hammer

Thanks for the help, I have a piston valve on HP cylinder, but have had problems with condensate in the LP cylinder, tried to open the drain cocks, but it didn't take away the sound.
The mini restor sounds intresting, Perhaps that is what I need.

Re: Water hammer

Thank you but it is the receiver between HP and LP cylinder. so it's steam pressure that goes into LT cylinder. but some sort of shock arrestor might work.

Water hammer

over the winter I have mounted gauges in the wheelhouse, but it sounds like the water Hammering in the gauge measuring receiver pressure. sound comes and goes, I have tried to adjust it out by fiddling the valves without success, I have a valve on the receiver and one on the pressure gauge. and appr...

Re: Superheating

My boiler is a VFT with 150 tubes, 6.5 square meter heating Surface, It was a bit too small for the engine. The superheater is abaut 9 feet 1 inch of industrial superheater pipes, which is localized under the tubes. the heat is about 260 celcius or 500 f. The cylinder oil that I use can't take much ...

Re: Superheating

from what I have heard and read, it can make a big difference, but it also depends on whether you are using a single Engine or compound Engine, a compound condensing Engine gets more profit by the superheating, I have heard about a third less fuel consumption in a boat, but at my own boat where the ...

Re: Draft

I agree, soot is no good. last year I got the bright idea to throw in a rubber boot in the fire, It was lots off black smoke, but after a while I started to lose pressure, at first I did not understand what the error was, but when the fire began to burn out of the fire door I understood. I was still...

Re: Hello from sweden

Bart I took some pictures of the engine today, where unfortunately not so good, a little too dark. I'm ashamed of how the engine looks, no shine, and lots of rust, it looks to be 100 years old, though it is only 2 I blame the Machinist, he should be fired :D http://i1022.photobucket.com/albums/af345...

Re: Hey Bart

Hey Scott It depends on how thick the ice is, is it thick then the boat rides up on it, but with my little tug, i cannot expect to break any thick ice. Not enough horsepower for that. Another problem is that you either need to keep boiler warm night and day, or drain it and all pipes in the winter, ...

Re: Hello from sweden

Hey Bart find unfortunately no good close-ups on the computer, but got to find the camera and take a few, cylinder block reminiscent of Rainers new engine, but I build the cylinders separate, they bolt together, to help get them up in my lathe. Was a bit worried about the steel liners and steel pist...

Re: Hey Bart

Actually, I have a hot bulb engine in my other boat. A bit more noise than steam. Yea it weighs a lot, built for ice breaking, has not tried to break ice with the steam Engine yet, it is on the TODO list :) has not made any tests but the steam pressure rises from 85 to 110 psi with the fan on, the s...
