This Prony Brake was actually made to find the horsepower of a small uniflow steam engine. It worked very well, but several graduate engineers at a large firm specializing in power plant design, could not find any answer to the stated question!
Alright, I'm intrigued. What's the question?

Valvegear Simulation Software

I don't know if this is well known, but I recently found a website (http://www.billp.org/Dockstader/ValveGear.html) with software available for simulation of more or less every valve gear ever used. It's meant for use with the live steam community but it's still been pretty useful for me, hopefully ...

Re: Simpson Strickland engine

There are a number of the smaller Kingdon engines about in UK, USA and one in NZ mainly of the 1/4A,A & AB sizes, I suspect this is the only B (or larger) engine left and certainly the only one capable of operation. Regards Jack I'm not terribly familiar with Simpson Strickland's terminology. Being...

Re: Steam Actuated Inlet Valves?

Skinner of course used two cams running running at the same speed, and adjusted the phase angle between the cams to achieve a wide range of cut-offs, from 5 or 10% to over 50% - necessary since those engines were often used in direct reversing marine service, and reliable reversing is essential. Th...

Re: Heavy Duty Trailer cover

Alright, keeping in mind that virtually all of my experience is in moving furniture; If you want to do this on a tighter budget, look at using a few tarps instead of just one. I'd recommend wrapping the VFT by itself, with a liberal amount of ratchet ties to keep flapping to a minimum. The biggest ki...

What are you going to do with the exhaust valve?

Lionel
Because timing isn't quite as important as the inlet valve, I figured either a uniflow design or cam driven poppet would be suitable.
