Re: Let's ban Loctite!
Getting back to the O.Ps thoughts, don't Loctite specify a minimum clearance to allow for space for the Loctite crystals to form? i'e. a 'press' fit is too tight anyway. Something like that, in the dim and distant, is floating in my lonely grey-cell. Yes, they do - and I followed that advice... to ...

Re: Let's ban Loctite!
RGSP I agree with everything you have said. Good/appropriate Loctite surface prep is probably more of a science than I can necessarily manage and (as you say) may well point to the problem. "Bumping" motorcycle crankshafts was (as you say) the normal approach (even documented in the manufacturer's w...

Re: Ideas to fasten gear wheels to shafts
TaperLock assemblies are the way to go, you get a matched gear/pulley and hub. Work very well and reasonable price . Here is are examples from Bearing Boys https://www.bearingboys.co.uk/Taperlock ... ets-1121-c. and https://www.bearingboys.co.uk/Taper-Bushes-1134-c
enjoy!

Re: Prop Step Up
There are at least 5 boats to my knowledge in the SBA, including mine
They all use commercial toothed belt arrangements and work well..

Re: Watertube boiler casing lining
I think the vitcas would stand the heat, but not the shovel!!!
Firebricks and castable refractory for the grate area is the normal approach...
I would strongly advocate liquid fuelling for watertube boilers, their lack of thermal inertia makes them a pain to manage with a coal/wood fire.....

Re: Watertube boiler casing lining
I used a 1 inch ceramic fibre board from vitcas. https://shop.vitcas.com/ceramic-fibre-board-1260-vitcas-insulating-board.html You can cut it with wood working tools or serrated knife. No inner steel liner. See blog for more details on insulation and casing https://sy-befur.co.uk/2017/07/04/boiler-i...

Forgings/Castings for Leak Compound?
It looks like I need to make a new crank for my Leak Compound, and I was wondering if anyone is aware of a supplier of blank forgings or castings for the crankshaft?
