Re: Steam engine from the North Caucasus

Steam Boat Association of Great Britain has a library of boiler designs, from small to quite large, that have passed muster with the "authorities" as I understand. https://steamboatassociation.co.uk/page-1145952 You will have to join to make use of the service. Magnificent work you are doing. I enjo...

Re: Stuart no 6

Allan,
The drawing in Steamboats and Modern Steam Launches shows the No.6 with 3/8" valve rods. Looks like your's has had the cure applied. Have fun with the project.

Re: Electrically fired Boilers?

Allow me to share what come to call the “Aerospace Plumber”. The incident occurred in Longview, WA in the early 80’s. A young couple complained that they had recently started to get hot water when they first opened the cold water tap (clue #1). The apartment manager called the plumber and after a lo...

Re: Machinest Question

Ya, Fred the demo was a bit over the top. This is the one I wanted to post, but couldn't find at the time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96LwwycOhPI
I little more down to earth from a guy down under.

Re: Machinest Question

Check out https://www.speedtaps.com/. These are taps made for use in an impact wrench. Haven't used them myself so I can add no more to what they say.

Re: 2.5mm Oil/Kerosene Nozzles

Ah yes, relighting off the back wall or brick work a practice unapproved of by the US navy, but frequently done by those that got away with it the last time without harm. This practice at the least causes stresses to the burner front brick work shortening its' service life, but it can also result in...

Re: Antidote to Cabin Fever?

75 Years go the world saw the first step in the end of a war that ravaged the world. Today we face a war of a different kind with an enemy that we can't easily see.
We can win again with the same resolve and sacrifice as our parents had during those hard years.

Happy VE-Day

Re: Interesting Regenerative Firebox Design

Mike,
After looking at the 3D rendition, I think that the combustion air and exhaust gases pass through a plate type heat exchanger.

Re: Pacific Lumber Ships

Many of these ships I’ve seen on the on the Columbia where I live. Calmar, and Olsen ships would call at the mills across the river from us, and the Lumber Lady (pg157), last of the steam schooners, would pass on its’ way to and from the mill in Rainer Oregon. I was four or five years old. In the 19...

Re: VFT tube leak

Fred, The there is about a full page of text that further explains the ifs and buts of the tube wall graph I posted. You're examples and graphs say the same thing in and easier to understand. Now that said, I think there is a miss type with 210c and 0.42bar, looking at the steam tables reveals 110c ...
