Re: Appropriate hullsize and prop for 25 HP engine

Frank, While displacement and machinery are a given, what you haven't said is what you would prefer your boat to be... It is entirely possible to design a boat to easily swing a 41inch prop', however with the almost implausible depth of water you are considering keeping the boat on it would have to ...

Re: Operating pressure

Wendell, Sorry to hear your woes! A walkabout fire is a new one on me though. I'm afraid from the picture it simply looks like the grate is off centre, although by the sound of it there is more involved. Penberthy; what is the working steam pressure range your injector is rated to? Are the steam sup...

Re: Taylor engine castings

Martin,

The only 4" x 4" twin in production is to Roger Mallinson's design, built by Kevin at Manor Farm Engineering.

A twin of that size will power a very large boat, have you got a project in mind?

Re: Simpling Valve

Very common practice on later compounds to put a valve seat inbetween the HP (inside admission piston valves) and the reciever (also sometimes took the form of a quarter turn plug cock with passages between the two spaces). It was often externally piped on larger engines where longer small bore pass...

Re: water pickup

CB, The only acceptable way to do this is to use feedwater manifolds- just as with steam take-off; isolate the manifold with a valve on the boiler- this means that although the manifold will effectively be a part of the pressure vessel it can be isolated. Make up the manifold in heavy steel fitting,...

Re: water pickup

Injectors are very reliable, if you buy a decent one, pipe it up with a reliable and clean (filtered) supply and pipe it up with shortest run to the boiler as possible with as little bends as you can in the line. Make sure the injector cannot reach anything approaching boiler temperature- a common p...

Re: Staurt Turner 6A Drawings

Thanks Dave,

I've had an offer of a set of drawings on loan so all sorted!

I still haven't got round to getting a copy of that book...!

Re: Staurt Turner 6A Drawings

Jorgen,

Thanks, that's an interesting offer, but I'll decline on this occasion- it's really just a copy of the originals I'm after.

His design sounds broadly similar to my proposed revisions however- I don't suppose you would have any pictures just out of interest?

Staurt Turner 6A Drawings

I wonder if anyone has copies of the drawings for the 6A that I could have/copy? They don't need to be in good condition as I don't intend to build an engine to the drawings, rather; redesign the 6A. It would be good to see how ST drew the engine as the engine I have appears to be slightly different...
