Re: Is bigger better?

Hi Harry best wishes for your project. My tuppence (or two cents) worth is to say that there is a surprising difference between the volume/seating capacity/power requirments of some hulls with apparently similar specs. The 21ft Indian Runner is a lovely hull and and there are a number of very succes...

Re: Three Drum Boilers

Great progress Noel, thanks for these pictures which are very helpful to other builders. I particularly like your driver for the deburring and expanding - may ask you for more details presently. John

Re: Three Drum Boilers

Hi Noel, so where are the pictures then! I have my own similar boiler drums drilled and reamed. The inside flash is very minor, and I can't say I saw it as a problem. I had thought that perhaps a rub over with coarse abrasive paper on a curved backing block ought to be enough. Incidentally, have you...

New Steam Launch Design from Selway Fisher

Paul Fisher has added an interesting new design to his website this week -the 26ft 8inch Etna at the end of this page.... http://www.selway-fisher.com/Steam2030.htm I like the idea of fitting the engine & boiler beds before planking the hull. "With her modern reverse counter stern and pronounced tum...

Re: Bottle Engine 3D Model

Hmmm Pat you’ve set us a challenge to find a way you can machine those Stanley valve faces. Here’s my tuppence worth. Assume that you will core the steam passages, with the inlet and exhaust ports on the faces cast undersize. From the drawing below, it seems that the surface that will form the finis...

Re: Prospective steam launch builder in West Virginia

Paul is being very modest, his engine building series was great. Vintage engines turn up on ebay (& no doubt Craigslist) from time to time. Perhaps you could concentrate on your hull first and keep a watch meantime. Also, this lets other steamers see you are serious about putting a boat in the water...
