Re: PDF Book on Triple and Quadruple Expansion engines
cyberbadger you must have a pretty large supply line to create that huge shower! what size is it? I am trying to achieve a constant operational device. I cannot afford that high steam loss. It would simply be a catch 22. I would lose what i gain. Plus, i would have to supply make-up water to the sys...

Re: PDF Book on Triple and Quadruple Expansion engines
au contraire I always use the condenser. I add very little make-up water. But, I am not SOL if I run out of tank water because I can get water from the lake. I want to try this turbo idea. If it works, THEN I will plumb the discharge through the condenser. The idea sounds like a great way to make mo...

Re: PDF Book on Triple and Quadruple Expansion engines
I run in fresh water and can easily refill the tank from the river. I do run a condenser. I want to try the turbo idea without installing much plumbing. I thought i would extend the stack and feed the air up into the extension. The turbo may be really loud (not that the engine isn't) but womp, womp,...

Re: PDF Book on Triple and Quadruple Expansion engines
Wesley asked me "What size boiler and fuel are you running with your Navy K?" Everette eng inc boiler 84 sq ft max pressure 200 psi max steam capacity 673 lbs/hr built 2005 I burn bituminous and or anthracite coal in it. Firing up with commercial charcoal. I have been thinking about the turbo charge...

Everette eng inc boiler 84 sq ft max steam capacity 673 lbs/hr built 2005 I burn bituminous and or anthracite coal in it. Firing up with commercial charcoal. I have a tube which can blow steam up the stack but there is no nozzle on it. The turbine fan sounds pretty interesting. Is it mounted in the ...

Re: PDF Book on Triple and Quadruple Expansion engines
If you raise the pressure of the steam exhausting from the primary, the drop in pressure across the primary is reduced And therfore, the force of the stroke. I gues that reduction is negated by the use of multiple expansions.l. i just cant imagine 40knots on a steam boat. New gas heaters that exhaust...

Re: PDF Book on Triple and Quadruple Expansion engines
"it was fed all the way back to the boiler, passing thru a large number of reheat tubes inside the boiler casing, then back to the next expansion cylinder." I didn't have this concept at all. I thought it was time dependent between pulses. As i see it this system is capable of a higher pressure in th...

Re: PDF Book on Triple and Quadruple Expansion engines
Thanks, I found the article and I am quite amazed. Being a mechanical engineer, I "thought" i knew a thing or two. But, this engine operation confounds me. What in the world could allow the heat transfer to the expanding steam at such a high rate as it seems it would need be between piston strokes. ...

Re: PDF Book on Triple and Quadruple Expansion engines
What is meant by "triple reheat"? Is this actually triple expansion? I understand triple expansion but not triple reheat. I was stated the boat would make 40knots. Really? Why? How is it so powerful? My 1914 Navy k runs better with the starting valve open. Maybe i don't have near enough pressure (90...
