Re: Exhaust

Jon , The exhaust should enter the stack at or near the bottom and point up it like the nozzle of a steam blower . It helps to have a slight restriction/venturi in the stack but this isn't essential . The separator/silencer is just an empty cylinder : put the entry for the exhaust at one end angled ...

Re: i want to meet with people who are building the elliot b

Dear imsteamer21 , I can't answer you questions about the number of drawings and castings and whether the drawings have been amended or not ; I think Pat Spurlock at Elliott Bay would best be able to answer those points . I know of five engines which have been built or are being built , Ken Hall fro...

Re: Big engine on craiglist... looks sturdy

Indeed it does , I stand corrected . Its the first time I've seen a governor on anything other than a static engine . Was this common practice in North America ?

Re: 18x20 LH three blade. 1.25 shaft

The two names used to be Starboard (steeringboard) and Larboard (don't know where that word comes from, Leaboard perhaps. ) As Mike says as steering was by means of an oar lashed to one side at the stern it was customary to come into a wharf or dockside on the Larboard . Not surprisingly in a stormy...

Re: Triple Expansion Engine - Elliott Bay

On large engines there was often a blanked off port to which the indicator could be connected to register pressure in the cylinder . On smaller engines it was usually connectd to the cylinder through one of the drain-cock ports . A cord connected to the crosshead turned a cylinder on the indicator a...

Re: Wanted: Cylinder Drain cocks

Dear Daniel ,
Apologies , for some reason either the site or my computer repeatedly garbles and corrupts the URL I have tried to paste . It should read :
http:www.chanterbiomed.co.uk/boiler_spares/drain_cocks.html
Hope this works .

Re: Wanted: Cylinder Drain cocks

Dear Daniel ,

I think these are fairly close to what you want. http://www.chanterbiomed.co.uk/boiler_s ... _cocks.htl . SteamboatJack uses them on the Elliott Bay triples he has made/is building .
