Re: Boiler Reserve
These baffles would possibly create a differential in pressure in the steam space, here's how: If the holes in these baffles were sized accordingly, when there is a sudden drop in pressure in the steam space above, water would surge in to these baffles and the restriction in flow will cause a higher...

Re: Boiler Reserve
I will be building an Ofeldt soon for another project. Seems these water tube boilers all have a bit of an issue with sight glass accuracy. In the case of an Ofelft, what about two baffles just above the water surface? Imagine two plates with hole patterns one above the other and staggered in rotati...

Re: Stuart Turner 6A - Crankshaft Casting
On the twin in the tug, the center section disc and shaft are just slip fit and keyed, secured with a set screw and back up set screw to secure. This has very worked very well so far and should be easy to disassemble later. The other discs are both pressed in, no trouble with that either. Some very ...

Re: Steering ratio
I've read that for a pleasure craft, about 3 turns bank to bank is about right. Also, for a steering system, the Teleflex systems (which are three turns) are hard to beat for ease of installation and reliability. Once one purchases all the pulleys, cables, fasteners etc. for a cable system, the cost...

Re: Lubricator Question
It is interesting that the instructions say to take the steam off above the throttle valve. This means that if the steam stop valve at the boiler is open and the engine stopped with closed throttle, the lubricator will keep on dripping. I guess the throttle is usually to close to the engine and the...

Re: Lubricator Question
Hi Jon, In this pic you can see how I have my displacement lubricator mounted. It is simply mounted in a tee. There is typically an oil delivery tube that protrudes into the center of the "bullhead" of the tee and center flow of steam to the engine. A lot of old Displacement lubricators have that mi...
