Re: Literature on Ofeldts?
Thanks for all of the excellent replies. Based on what I've read and seen from you all, Ofeldts are really good for fast steaming. I'm still in the middle of deciding between using an Ofeldt and a 3-drum (Yarrow?) boiler, and based on what I've read it's probably going to come down to ease of constr...

Literature on Ofeldts?
I haven't been able to find any good sources for design or orientation of Ofeldt boilers. Can anyone recommend anything?

Chevron W680 as cylinder oil?
Has anybody experimented with Chevron W680 or any other similar products for cylinder lubrication? It's intended for use in environments up to 300 PSI steam pressure and up to 575 F, and the price is pretty good at ~$90 for a 5 gallon bucket. Re: Invidious comparisons
I suggest the following option as it should largely short circuit such thinking. I am resolved to give out the speed in Furlongs per Fortnight. First of all, especially here in the states, few people have any idea how far a furlong is and the same thing is true of a fortnight. Comments and suggeste...

Re: PDF Book on Triple and Quadruple Expansion engines
Sorry to resuscitate an old thread, but as I'm getting close to finishing my engine design I thought that I'd clear a few things up when I refer to steam reheat. In my engine design, which is quadruple expansion, the steam reheat takes place between the LP cylinder on the HP side (second steam expan...

Re: PDF Book on Triple and Quadruple Expansion engines
Thanks for this excellent publication! Long nights of study here for me. I also have the original Scientific American article about the "ARROW", a yacht that put Turbinia to shame in the late 1890s. This is the only triple reheat steam plant I have ever seen, and I have worked in steam power since ...

Re: PDF Book on Triple and Quadruple Expansion engines
This book is available on the much excellent archive.org; here's the link to the pdf version . Akitene-- Thanks for the link, that should be more reliable and easier. Also, is anybody aware of other resources on quadruple expansion or compound reheat engines? I have a book with some of Porta's work...

PDF Book on Triple and Quadruple Expansion engines
Hello All While doing research today for the engine that I am in the process of designing, I came across an electronic copy of Triple & Quadruple Expansion Engines and Boilers, and their management . I have had some trouble finding literature specifically related to quadruple expansion engines, so i...
