We were both lulled into a false sense of security as far as photos being video is concerned... It hasn't come out bad considering the weather on the lake though- there's nothing wrong with your inbuilt sense of 'level' Pete!

The 'perfect' Stuart Turner...
Hello everybody, Let's say you had just acquired a very well run-in example of a Stuart Turner 5A, a very well made example, made to the drawings with all from Stuart castings. It performs as well as any 5A out there, however, therein lies a problem; 5A's are noisy, short-legged, unreliable reverser...

Re: Burst Disc/Burst diaphragm/Rupture Disc Pressure Safety
Your second boiler sounds like a beauty- and given your attentiveness to getting things right you shouldn't have any problems. Attack any lack of confidence in your plant at source- get plenty of fires lit and get some steaming in, raise your confidence and learn on the job. The only daft question i...

Re: Burst Disc/Burst diaphragm/Rupture Disc Pressure Safety
To test the logic of your argument; next time you have a safety valve blowing off at MWP and a good fire on, open the boiler blowdown valve and see how long you want to be in the vicinity of your boiler. Not long I would think! That is essentially the scenario that you would be putting the boat and ...

Re: Burst Disc/Burst diaphragm/Rupture Disc Pressure Safety
Not convinced this is an entirely good idea- if you have managed to let the fire raise steam 50psi over the blow off pressure to start with I would be adressing your firing method! As soon as you noticed the pressure going above SWP your first action would be to manage the fire and stop it raising p...

Fred,
Have tried on numerous occasions, Carole was the first to actively take on the role of answering questions, but at the moment there are no takers.

Re: Hello from the Windermere Steamboat Museum
Daniel, The museum is currently in a massive state of disruption with the first phase of the demolition in full flow. A remote site further along the shore is currently being re-structured to house a boatyard which will serve as the conservation workshop/boathouse for the museum until it's completio...

Re: Once upon a time...
I have often wondered what they must get upto all alone- and now we know... Scotty, It was a visiting model that happened to be there at the same time. A lovely little freelance design, similar to SL Bat in the steamboat museum. It has a spirit fired brass boiler supplying steam to one of Martin Ran...

Re: Boiler advice
Wes, There are numerous Aussie preserved historic/modern private steam boats/launches with some very knowlegeable and experienced engineers who build/maintain them. I've met quite a number now who have made a 'pilgramage' over to the UK to see SY Gondola and other boats over here. From what I can te...

Re: Sisson Triple
Perhaps to soothe the injustices bestowed upon D!esel it's a comfort to know that the Crossley family (of said engine fame) chose to power their launch with a Sissons Triple....! That is worth a smiley
