Re: Reliable Monitor Plans
Any link Tom? I'd like to see what it's like. A search here drew a complete blankTriangleTom wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 10:31 pmDoes anyone have any experience or knowledge of the Reliable Monitor plans? I'm intrigued by the thought of building one in steel, but I'd like to know the community's thoughts before dropping a Grant.

Of course, I think she and 72 are the only active ones left (ISTBC)

It seems VIC32 is able to be used and there are a few under restoration, so perhaps not not the picture of doom that was prevalent some years back. There were over 100 built.

Re: The Vital Spark
As opposed to the practice of blowing the exhaust up the stack, the term 'Puffer' (sometimes Clyde Puffer) in this case refers to the small trading vessels that frequented British Coastal waters many years ago, mainly to the Scottish Western Islands, though not exclusively. They were obviously steam...

Re: Glass ejector working under steam
Now where is the video that uses glass to show how an INJECTOR works? :o :? Well they are very similar devices, they both use jets or nozzles. The animation in the video is probably one of the best ways to understand how an INJECTOR works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6v0-jk-fyeY or this video, ...

Burgundy sounds nice, Ron. Black has some appeal, but would it make things a bit dark where you might want to see?

Re: And Now for the Twin
Turn it round and do the other side. The rim is 0.875" Ish wide and the recesses are about 0.250", so still plenty on the web. Flywheel (5) (600 x 450).jpg Just the key itself to cut. Flywheel (6) (600 x 450).jpg Another job ticked off the list. It's getting closer to the time when I'll HAVE to do t...

Re: And Now for the Twin
Another slight change of direction! I've been thinking about a flywheel. As has been said before, a twin shouldn't need a large one and there is always the screw helping things along. Usual 03.00 o'clock epiphany, I've got a 6" Chuck back-plate casting sat on a shelf, very unloved, for more years th...

Colours.
As I'm starting to think about protecting various bits from rust, like the bed-plate etc. I wondered if there are any preferential colours that folk like to see, or are traditionally used on steamboat engines, like loco inside frames are often red? Green (Brunswick?) has always seemed popular for ma...
