Re: Sizing Toothed/Synchronous Belts for prop drive

Hi "CB", sorry for slight delay...lets see if I can answer your questions... First some parts... Here are the pulleys with Taperlock bushes and one of the Pillow Block Bearings (Actually 2 of these I had in stock and were RHP of the same dimensions). All of these supplied by BearingBoys [url]http://...

Re: Steam and sails

Well it's not done yet, but Befur is certainly designed to be a steam yacht. Leak Compound and Chinese Junk Rig - lots of words and pics here http://sy-befur.co.uk...

Should be in the water next spring.... (fingers crossed)

Confused: Leak Valve design and setting...and other stuff

I am in the process of undertaking "final" assembly/finishing and setting of the Leak Compound (the smaller one) that I have been building and commenting on in my blog... The engine runs on air (when piped up as a HP twin), but I have some doubts about the timing of the valve events. The "book" from...

Re: Sizing Toothed/Synchronous Belts for prop drive

Thank you gents for your input. This morning I licked my calculating pencil (aka Google sheets) and looked at the loadings involved (please make allowances for my amateur engineer status). The interweb tells me that the loading on a plain bearing is a combination of the bearing area (1/3rd of the to...

Just FYI and following on from all your advice I thought you might be interested in the assembled components for the prop-shaft belt drive (see pics below), comments welcome. Dimensions: propshaft 1.25" dia, three deep grove ball races in plumber's blocks (two to take belt loads, one as a thrust bea...

Re: Injector Designs?

Hi John I have the original Lawrie Lawrence articles on which DAG Brown based his ideas (jig reamers etc). and a good friend of mine has built a number of smaller injectors based on DAG and others work....perhaps a two injector solution as you suggest might be good. I will be condensing so we also n...

Re: injector

Check out some recent back issues of "Live Steam", a couple of months ago they had a series of articles on building your own injector. I didn't save those ( I'm NEVER going to build one!) BUT if I still remember them they must have been pretty recent! rp Thanks Ron, I will see if I can find relevan...

Re: Injector Designs?

Every thought about looking at the nozzel designs for a penberthy high pressure injector and using that as a starting point? One of my water sources for my launch is a 1/2" high pressure penberthy. It works 50PSI up to 200PSI. I can't tell beyond that because 200 is the MAWP for my boiler. I could ...

Re: Injector Designs?

I am contemplating building an injector for Befur with a friend of mine who has successfully made a number of smaller (model engineering size) injectors.... The question is are there designs/specs for Steam Launch size HP (250psi) injectors around??? Thanks M I take it that there are no new ones be...
