Steam consumption of Simpson Strickland Quad

Hi guys,
Does anyone know the steam consumption figures for the Simpson Strickland AB size quad (3 + 4 + 5 1/4 + 7 * 4, 500rpm, 250psi and 20ihp)?
I'm sure there is a way of calculating it, but I don't know how to do it!
Cheers,
Daniel

Re: BOILER PRIMING

There are much easier and safer ways to clean boiler tubes on a VFT boiler than using a lance. Zeltic, Puke, Eliza Hobson and Kapanui are all set up with a soot blower in the smokebox. basically it is just a very large blower, in Zeltic's case a 1/2 inch pipe pointing straight up the middle of the f...

Re: Marsh Simplex Waterside blues

I suspect that it is largely due to the piston that you have a problem. I would change it to leather cups if you can, hopefully it is a standard size. If the pump is flooded suction, you don't need a check valve on the suction, if you are lifting, then the check valve needs to be a at the lowest poi...

Re: S.Y. Persistence

Excellent stuff, well done, a big steamer is a huge undertaking, and this looks like it will be a good one.

Re: S.S. Zeltic

Thanks Steve, Zeltic is intended to look like a small working boat, hence the mast and derrick (which sits above the cargo hatch on the foredeck). Also we have very few bridges to deal with, and as most of our vessels go to sea at some stage, its useful to have somewhere to mount the masthead light ...

Re: S.S. Zeltic

Evening, The small compound is a Stuart Turner No3. My father bought it from the original owner, and a friend did the final assembly work. Dad sold it on, and another friend finished it properly and sorted out a few little issues with it. The previous owners father had bought it for him in 1928, and...

Re: S.S. Zeltic

Hi Ron, Yes it is quite nice, fairly ruggedly built. It has had some modifications in the past (the overlarge counterweights are an addition), and it has been abused too. A and G Price, who built the engine still exist, so the plans will be somewhere in their drawing office. They have always been a ...

Re: S.S. Zeltic

I've just got hold of the pictures of the engine taken during the rebuild about 5 years go. Here is the finished engine, minus the air pump. Unfortunately it subsequently needed further work as old damage, from having been hydrauliced many years ago, came to light, and Sean had to do some clever sur...

Re: Nyitra I

A 3/8 Penberthy would be more like the size needed. I use a 3/8 on Zeltic and it works beautifully. Kapanui and Puke have bigger boilers, and both use a 1/2 inch injector, again a good match, although continuous use would overfill the boiler and kill the steam fairly quickly. Fortunately the engine ...
