Re: Mono-tube boiler website

Been running a monotube steamboat this past summer, with reasonable success. It takes about 1 minute for the steam pressure gauge to move off the peg from cold, then at 2 minutes I have 150 PSI steam. The uniflow engine allows the steam to be turned onto the cold engine and it starts immediately, wi...

Re: Mono-tube steam generators - special adaptations

I would second the method of just using two metering orifices to force the flow to be evenly distributed between the two coils. This would be more reliable, provided there is no contamination material clogging the orifices, and this can be assured with a fine screen strainer in the feed pump line. I...

Re: Steam drum

To be a Code Boiler, welded or not, requires material certifications, and if the boiler drums are not seamless tubes/pipe, then radiography is required. That is plenty expensive by itself.

Re: Another Sidewheeler Building

A long time needed to make the sidewheel splash guards, built up with epoxy joined Mahogany veneer layers and a marine plywood base. The structural part of the guards is all made from IPE, known as the worst wood to work with, being ultra strong, ultra heavy (it will not float in water), ultra expen...

I think the sequence of picture uploads is the last upload is the first picture of your post.

Great to learn about the fast steamer, I thought the 4000 horsepower quadruple expansion triple reheat yacht "Arrow" had the record for speed.

Re: New member

Virtually all steamboats of today use steam pressures in the vicinity of 6 to 11 Barg, (90 - 160 PSIG), which works very well with engines exhausting to atmosphere, as well as with condensing service and vacuum exhaust. If you wish to use very low steam pressure of about 0.5 to 1.5 Barg (7 to 21 PSI...
