Re: Sight glass position
Perfect! Thanks. While I don't have a set of plans, I'm using the info about your build for pointers. A super heater and preheater are in the works. I am planing a baffle and my center pipe is going to be L O N G.

Sight glass position
I'm in the process of building an Ofeldt boiler. The center column is schedule 80 6" pipe. The coils are 1/2 tube coiled into 6" coils about 10" long. My question is where should the sight glass be located. Should the top be a little higher than the top of the coils. Should the water level be higher...

1/4" Bonnet Type Check Valves
I've got 10 of these for sale. They are New Old Stock Jenkins brand valves. Marked 1/4 and 150. They have a rubber sealing surface on the plunger. It looks to me like a light spring could be added to enhance closure. $25 each shipped free to the US. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v56/mtnman37879/...

Re: A Real Start
Ambition is the most important thing in starting a project. About the Canoe, are you proficient in canoeing? I ask this because, from experience I have found a canoe to be very unstable and capsizes easily. If you add an outrigger they become very stable.

Nice little launch at what seem to be a reasonable price. Not mine, just passing on the info.

Re: position of boiler and engine in new launch
"Temporarily mount the equipment and put it in the water. It is the only sure way to get it right." Sorry Ron, but I have to disagree, this is not the only sure way to get it right. Although for many of us actual physical testing in the water is the most practical way to go, Naval Architecture has ...

Re: Hand pump for boiler feedwater
http://www.neptunepump.com/pt-pump.html This is the pump you want. It is very similar (maybe identical?) to what Beckman sells. Mine cost $300 (for the bronze version) from Neptune about 8 years ago. It's a big pump, both in dimensions and capacity, and it works beautifully. I have steamed my 3x4 s...

Re: What kind of First Aid Kit do have on your launch?
A bucket of Kerosene and a dirty rag. Works for burns and cuts alike. Stops bleeding and cools burns. Dunk the affected body part in the Kerosene and wrap it with the rag, that'll hold ya till ya get home.
