Re: How many of us ARE there?
One reason I made this forum was to make it as easy as possible for the non-computer type folk to read and write about Steamboats. There will always be some people who will never use the internet, so hopefully us who do will be able to aid them with any problems they have. Spot on! That's exactly w...

Re: Steamboat sound recording near SE Asia
Yahoo groups has a "steam whistle" group at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/steam-whistles/info - you'll need to belong to yahoo groups to join and view, but that should be no big deal. Surprised nobody in China has done something about this. China was one of the last countries to run steam loco...

Re: Help identify
Does anyone have any contact information of anyone who owns a Herreshoff single or early compound? Or possibly someone who may be a bit of an expert on these engines? I'm trying to get dimensions of columns, bolt spacing, etc. to better make a conclusion.... If anyone has any more pictures that may...

Re: Main steam gauge calibration.
I have used: Scaler Sales 12119 NE 99th Street, Suite 2000 Vancouver, WA 360-993-1222 It's been a couple of years, but they're still in business. Recalibrate/rebuild steam guages including antiques. Also rework antique gauges for different pressures including new gauge faces. I realize that most of ...

Well, let's really have some fun: Whose art is the most representational? Leonardo daVinci or a 6 year old child (either sex).

Re: 2014 Great Delta Steamboat Meet
Ron, I think you are mistaken. If you look at Carol Ann's engine, the columns are completely cast and it has slip eccentric valve gear, whereas the Magic's engine has cast back columns with turned front columns and Stevenson valve gear. Additionally both the outside as well as the internal dimensio...

Re: 2014 Great Delta Steamboat Meet
Ron, you must mean solely in the sense that they were intended for the water taxis, not in being identical. No, I meant that if your engine was from the water taxis of the Expo, then, as Bob Dessert's engine in Magic is also from the same set of 4, they are identical. See the "Magic" listing on the...

Re: An out-there idea.
Fulton designed (and built?) a twin hulled warship in 1812 with a paddle wheel located between the two hulls for propulsion.
