Re: Thread converting
Only with the appropriate adaptor. BSP and NPT may have the same tpi at 1/2" dia, but the angles of the thread form are different (55 and 60 degs. respectively). Close, but not close enough for pressure.

Re: Boiler questions
The required pressure to operate could vary according to the load. Lightly loaded 120psi may well be enough to satisfy the requirements, heavily loaded needing a bit more.

Re: Ash pan
I would suggest it depends entirely on the size, shape and configuration, but if designed well, 16G (1.6mm) should be more than adequate.

Re: flexible shaft coupler
The problem with Hooke's type universal joints (as shown above) is that they do not give true constant rotation, unless in an absolute straight line, in which case there is very little need for one. Ideally they need to be used in 'aligned pairs' to cancel out the increases and decreases of rotation...

Re: A lurking wannabe no more.
Welcome Wayne. In the mechanical engineering realm, there are many with the engineering degree, who cannot tell the difference betweenan automobile engine and an air conditioning comprressor. Real exposure to the machines, and real understanding of them, carries more weight than having just the cre...

Re: Exhaust
Mike, just so I get this straight, what you are saying is that your float-valve is really a self-regulating by-pass valve. There must also be some minimal evaporation losses from the hot-well, so you do still need to keep weather eye on the gauge-glass.
