Stoker engine in this case is rather large compared to most steam launch engines. It was used to drive an auger that feed coal from the tender straight into the firebox.
That is such a rough service, coal constantly getting crushed as it was been feed that this engine is extremely overbuilt - almost comically so.
Keith Rucker is doing this side project in a collaboration with the Nashville Steam Preservation Society, he is beginning this restoration project to restore a Stoker Engine for the famous Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway No. 576.
