I am in the need of a float operated feed pump bypass for Rushforth.

Use a "Loo" valve you say.....well that's fine, but far too big for a little engine and well....using plastic doesn't sit well on my boat thank you. Need something small and easy to build and maintain.....brass anyway.

I'm searching through the old hardware shops for a smaller brass Loo valves, but ....nothing yet

The hotwell is 2 gallons.

Suggestions?......

I would have to agree with that.

We have a "loo" valve in my father's boat and all it aids in doing is preventing us from overfilling the hotwell.. The flow of the water from the bypass into the hotwell is in a very convenient spot, so all of our bypass adjustments are done by eye.

If you cannot find a valve small enough, you can put a restriction in the bypass line(or run a smaller than normal line), to reduce flow.

Thanks Wes and Jack,

Probably do just that for the short term.....will be less frantic once I get a float on her though.....

My friend Peter suggested a "gas cock".....or a ball valve...I'll give them a whirl too

That just takes time and effort......

but I need to spend some time learning how to "let her run" as opposed to "making her run"

On some of the big stuff I worked on we used a whistle valve on a float for the steam end of a big duplex feed pump. Worked decent.

Of course the hotwell was about 80 gallons......

to get a small float valve check an irrigation supply store for a stock tank float valve. I have used them on my self-watering gardens. they are about 4"x6"x2". Another possibility would be an evaporative cooler float valve. the good brass ones are about $9.00. They are small about 2"x1" with a long float arm that can be modified. Hope this helps.

Hi Piet. I'd like to purchase a "plumber's" valve from you. I live in Portland, Oregon, USA. How do we make the money transfer? I can send it to you via PayPal if that would work.
