Hi,

I have been reconditioning a stuart 5a lately and in my efforts to do a nice good job I have broken one of the piston rings. I dont have a laith but even if I did I do not know what type of material was used. I looks like cast iron on the outside but the inside of the brake looks more like some sort of special alloy (mix between maybe a cast iron and something soft). Does anyone know what was used about 30 years ago when these engines were made. And or if someone can help me get (machine) the part.

thanks,
Barry Jacobs

I would have said cast iron. If you are using cast iron cylinders (which I'm sure the Swan will be) then cast iron rings would be best.
