Hello everyone,
Glad to be a member. Not new at boating however new at steam boating. I have been a Marine Surveyor for the past 31 years and had the pleasure of surveying the Steamer Mascot and the Admiral's launch New Jersey from WWI. The photos are of my new project, 1974 "homemade" with an 1885? single cylinder mounted up front. Yes, upfront. This boat 'Dauntless' came from California and I bought it from the second owner. If anyone has information on it, Please let me know.
Sincerely,
Perry

Nice boat, should make a good steamer. Where are you?

Welcome Perry!

You have a nice looking boat there which, after a little TLC, will turn heads wherever you go. Having the engine up front is not that daft/unusual. My former boat Frances Ann had the engine in front of the boiler so as to allow a reasonable amount of room for the skipper and crew.

Hope you will keep us posted as you make progress.

Regards

Pete

Hi Perry

As a postscript I will update the Steam Boat Association of GB's website as I picked up Dauntless as being for sale and had posted the ad in our Worldwide sales and wants section. The SBA is a worldwide group and has many members in the USA not to mention having a quarterly magazine. The latter is always keen to have build stories, re-build stories, etc. if you are the sort of person who is happy to write about what you have done. We have an excellent editor so text can be pretty rough.

We are currently running the story of my late engineer friend who used to keep a small notebook. He passed it to me and I typed it up, and then we discussed whether I had got stuff right. Our editor then checks the English, grammar, etc. and as an ex-marine engineer will point out where one might be on dodgy ground. Sadly the story will not finish as Chris passed away before finishing, but I think it still makes a good read.

Best wishes

Pete

Those photos were taken in Clifton Texas. I just dragged her out of a cow pasture and was heading home to Madisonville Louisiana. The boat will be in my covered slip on the Tchefuncte River.
