The Margaret S. is in its 10th season, and has been stoked up a bit this year. Made new admission/exhaust valves, and increased steam pressure from 100 PSI to 150 PSI. Added a feedwater heater, so the feed to the boiler, which was about 70 F (lake water), now enters the boiler at 194 F, allowing considerable increase in steam production. The original Propane burners can only hold 125 PSI now with full gear, as the engine is not only making more power, but also using more steam. The Propane burner jets need to be drilled out about 10% to allow maintaining 150 PSI.

For those that gave up Facebook after the Cambridge Analytica scandal, I am afraid that the link still does not work because Facebook insists one logs in first. I believe that it is possible to set up one's Facebook pages so that they are viewable without logging in, but few Facebook using organisations seem to bother. The SBA's Facebook page is reasonably accessible if you discount the panel at the bottom asking you to log in. I think I prefer YouTube, but only because Google has not yet been caught being naughty with our data.

The feedwater heater is simply a 1 inch diameter copper steam exhaust pipe, with a 1-1/4 inch diameter copper outer casing telescoped around the exhaust pipe, silver soldered, about 15 inches long. Feedwater is 1/2 inch copper tube, with compression fittings on each end of the 1-1/4 tube. A copper wire is wrapped around the exhaust pipe, making a spiral path of several rotations when the feedwater travels from inlet to outlet. The steam connections are ordinary automotive heater hose with hose clamps.

Feedwater enters at about 70F, and exits at 194F, with exhaust steam at atmospheric pressure, 212F. That amounts to about 10% higher steam production capability in the boiler, as heating the feedwater from 70Fto 194F is heat transfer that the boiler no longer needs to perform.

Closest I get to Facebook is Instagram, but I think that requires a login to view also.
